Valentine’s Heart Macarons are a delicate and beautiful treat perfect for celebrating love. With their crunchy exterior and soft, airy interior, they offer a sweet, customizable flavor combination. These heart-shaped treats are ideal for gifting or sharing with loved ones, making them the perfect dessert for Valentine’s Day celebrations. Filled with a luscious buttercream or ganache, these macarons combine elegance and irresistible flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups almond flour
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 large egg whites
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/4 tsp cream of tartar
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • 1/2 cup butter (for filling)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (for filling)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 oz chocolate (optional, for ganache filling)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Ingredients: Sift almond flour and powdered sugar together to ensure a smooth mixture.
  • Whisk the Egg Whites: In a clean bowl, beat egg whites with salt and cream of tartar until stiff peaks form. Gradually add granulated sugar and whisk until glossy and smooth. Add food coloring if desired.
  • Fold in Dry Ingredients: Gently fold sifted almond flour and powdered sugar into the egg whites until fully incorporated and the batter flows like lava.
  • Pipe the Macaron Shells: Transfer batter into a piping bag and pipe heart shapes onto a lined baking sheet.
  • Let the Shells Rest: Rest piped macarons at room temperature for 30 minutes to form a skin.
  • Bake the Macarons: Preheat oven and bake macarons at a low temperature until firm, being careful not to overbake.
  • Prepare the Filling: For buttercream, mix butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla. For ganache, heat heavy cream and pour over chopped chocolate.
  • Assemble the Macarons: Once the shells have cooled, pair them by size, pipe the filling on one shell, and sandwich together.

Notes

  • Sift almond flour and powdered sugar to ensure a smooth batter.
  • Be gentle when folding the dry ingredients into the egg whites to avoid deflating the batter.
  • Rest the piped shells before baking for best results.
