Description

Sweet Alabama Pecan Bread is a delightful Southern treat that combines the rich, nutty flavor of toasted pecans with a moist, sweet bread base. It’s perfect for gatherings, potlucks, or as a sweet snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or substitute with regular milk plus 1 teaspoon lemon juice or vinegar)
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  • In a large bowl, mix the melted butter with the granulated sugar and brown sugar until smooth.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Mix in the buttermilk until the batter is smooth.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  • Fold in the chopped pecans.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  • Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For added flavor, you can lightly toast the pecans before adding them to the batter.
  • This bread is delicious on its own or served warm with a pat of butter or a drizzle of honey.
  • To make it extra indulgent, serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
