- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar, divided
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon milk
- Red or pink sparkling sugar (for decorating)
- Optional: Heart-shaped cookie cutters (for shaping)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and 1 cup of granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and milk until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until the dough comes together.
- Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about ¼-inch thickness.
- Use heart-shaped cookie cutters to cut out the cookies, or use any shape you like.
- Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheets, leaving some space between each cookie.
- Sprinkle the tops of each cookie with the remaining ½ cup of granulated sugar or pink/red sparkling sugar.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies are lightly golden.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- If you want an extra sweet touch, you can drizzle with icing or add colored sprinkles after baking.
- These cookies can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
- If you don’t have heart-shaped cookie cutters, any cookie cutter can be used, or you can even shape them by hand.
