Description

These savory sausage rolls combine seasoned sausage meat wrapped in buttery puff pastry, baked to golden perfection. Ideal for entertaining or as a delicious snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound (450g) ground sausage meat
  • 1/2 cup (50g) breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup (60g) finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup (60g) finely chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried sage
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 package (17.3 oz or 500g) puff pastry sheets, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Filling:
    • In a large bowl, combine the ground sausage meat, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, parsley, thyme, sage, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.
  • Assemble the Rolls:
    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
    • Roll out the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. Cut each sheet into two rectangles (approximately 9×5 inches or 23×13 cm).
    • Divide the sausage mixture evenly into four portions. Place one portion along the center of each pastry rectangle, shaping it into a log.
    • Brush the edges of the pastry with the beaten egg. Fold the pastry over the sausage filling, sealing the edges by pressing them together.
    • Place the rolls seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with the remaining beaten egg.
    • Using a sharp knife, make a few small slits on top of each roll to allow steam to escape.
  • Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
    • Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before slicing into individual portions.

Notes

  • Variations: For added flavor, consider mixing in grated cheese, mustard, or a dash of hot sauce into the sausage mixture.
  • Serving Suggestions: Serve warm with a side of tangy mustard or your favorite dipping sauce.
  • Storage: These sausage rolls can be made ahead and frozen before baking. To bake from frozen, add an extra 5-10 minutes to the baking time.
