Description

This Old Fashioned Goulash is a hearty, comforting dish made with ground beef, elbow macaroni, and a savory tomato sauce. Packed with bold flavors and topped with melted cheddar cheese (if desired), it’s the perfect meal for cozy family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions

  • Brown the Beef:
In a large pot, brown the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it apart with a spoon. Once browned and cooked through, drain any excess fat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing for 3 minutes until fragrant.

  • Add the Tomatoes and Seasonings:
Stir in the diced tomatoes (undrained), tomato sauce, beef broth, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer.

  • Cook the Pasta:
Add the elbow macaroni to the pot and stir everything together. Cover and cook for 12-15 minutes, or until the pasta is tender and the sauce has thickened. Stir occasionally to prevent the pasta from sticking.

  • Serve and Enjoy:
Remove the pot from the heat and serve immediately. If desired, sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese before serving for extra flavor and creaminess.

Notes

  • You can adjust the amount of Italian seasoning to suit your taste.
  • For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
  • This dish can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat thoroughly before serving.
