- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cups Nestle Toll House semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped nuts (optional, such as walnuts or pecans)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a small bowl, combine the flour and baking soda. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, salt, and vanilla extract with an electric mixer until creamy and well-combined.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients (flour mixture) to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
- Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using).
- Drop rounded tablespoonfuls of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 9-11 minutes, or until golden brown around the edges but still soft in the center.
- Remove from the oven and cool on the baking sheets for 2 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
Notes
- You can chill the cookie dough for 30 minutes before baking for thicker cookies, if preferred.
- For chewier cookies, underbake slightly and let them set on the baking sheet for a couple of minutes before moving them.
- Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week. They can also be frozen for up to 3 months.
