Description

These M&M Nutella Lava Cookies are a fun and indulgent twist on the classic chocolate chip cookie. With a warm, gooey Nutella center that oozes out with each bite and a crunchy M&M shell, these cookies are sure to be a crowd favorite. Soft and chewy on the outside with a molten, chocolatey center—pure cookie bliss!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup Nutella (for the filling)
  • 1/2 cup M&M’s (plus extra for topping)
  • 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until creamy and smooth.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and beat until well combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  • Fold in the M&M’s and mini chocolate chips (if using).
  • To form the cookies, scoop a small amount of dough (about 1 tablespoon) and flatten it slightly in the palm of your hand. Place 1 teaspoon of Nutella in the center and fold the dough around the Nutella to seal it inside. Roll the dough into a ball and place it on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Top each cookie ball with a few more M&M’s.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the cookies are set but slightly soft in the center.
  • Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. The Nutella center will remain gooey for a lava effect when you bite into the cookies!

Notes

  • If you prefer a firmer center, you can refrigerate the dough balls for 30 minutes before baking.
  • For an extra chocolatey experience, you can add a tablespoon of cocoa powder to the dry ingredients.
  • These cookies are best eaten warm to experience the Nutella lava effect, but they will still taste great at room temperature!
