Description

Learn how to make the best white bread from scratch with this simple recipe. The soft, fluffy texture and delicious taste will make this homemade bread a family favorite!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 5 cups flour
  • 2 tsp yeast
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp softened butter

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
  • Sprinkle the yeast over the water and let it sit for about 10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  • Add the salt, softened butter, and flour to the yeast mixture. Mix well until the dough starts to form.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl and cover it with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rise for 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Punch down the dough and transfer it to a greased loaf pan. Let it rise for an additional 30 minutes.
  • Bake the bread in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Remove the bread from the oven and allow it to cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

  • You can substitute part of the white flour with whole wheat flour for a denser texture.
  • For an extra soft loaf, brush the top with melted butter once the bread comes out of the oven.
