- 2 cups warm water
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 5 cups flour
- 2 tsp yeast
- 2 tsp salt
- 3 tbsp softened butter
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
- Sprinkle the yeast over the water and let it sit for about 10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
- Add the salt, softened butter, and flour to the yeast mixture. Mix well until the dough starts to form.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl and cover it with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rise for 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Punch down the dough and transfer it to a greased loaf pan. Let it rise for an additional 30 minutes.
- Bake the bread in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove the bread from the oven and allow it to cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
- You can substitute part of the white flour with whole wheat flour for a denser texture.
- For an extra soft loaf, brush the top with melted butter once the bread comes out of the oven.
