These Greek Chicken Gyros are packed with flavor! Tender, marinated chicken served in soft pita bread with a creamy tzatziki sauce, fresh veggies, and feta cheese. This easy and delicious recipe will transport your taste buds straight to Greece.

Ingredients

Scale

For The Chicken Marinade:

  • 1 lb chicken breast, thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For The Tzatziki Sauce:

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • ½ cucumber, grated and drained
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill (or mint)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For The Gyros:

  • 4 pita bread rounds
  • ½ cup chopped tomatoes
  • ½ cup sliced red onions
  • ½ cup chopped cucumber
  • ¼ cup crumbled feta cheese
  • ¼ cup chopped parsley

Instructions

For The Chicken Marinade:

  1. In a bowl, mix together olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, oregano, cumin, salt, and pepper.
  2. Add the sliced chicken to the marinade and toss to coat. Let the chicken marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours in the fridge.

For The Tzatziki Sauce:

  1. In a bowl, combine Greek yogurt, grated cucumber (make sure it’s well-drained), garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, and dill (or mint). Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  2. Stir everything together until smooth. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

For The Gyros:

  1. Heat a grill pan or skillet over medium heat. Cook the marinated chicken for 5-7 minutes, until fully cooked and golden brown.
  2. Warm the pita bread rounds in a dry skillet for 1-2 minutes on each side.
  3. To assemble the gyros, place a warm pita on a plate. Add a few spoonfuls of cooked chicken, then top with chopped tomatoes, sliced red onions, chopped cucumber, crumbled feta cheese, and chopped parsley.
  4. Drizzle with tzatziki sauce and fold the pita around the filling.

Notes

  • You can grill the chicken on an outdoor grill for a smokier flavor.
  • For extra flavor, marinate the chicken overnight.

  • Feel free to add or adjust the toppings according to your preference (e.g., olives, lettuce, or more herbs).
