A mouthwatering combination of tender steak bites cooked in garlic butter, paired with cheesy, creamy smashed potatoes. This dish is the perfect comfort food for steak lovers, packed with flavor and easy to make.
Ingredients
-
2 Strip Steaks
-
Montreal Steak Seasoning (season to taste)
-
24 oz baby potatoes
-
Olive oil
-
Salt (season to taste)
-
Pepper (season to taste)
-
Garlic powder (season to taste)
-
2 tbsp butter
-
1 tbsp minced garlic
-
Shredded cheddar cheese
-
3 chopped green onions
Instructions
-
Cook the Potatoes: Begin by boiling the baby potatoes in a pot of salted water until tender (about 15-20 minutes).
-
Smash the Potatoes: Once cooked, drain the potatoes and gently smash them with a fork or potato masher. Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Set aside.
-
Prepare the Steak Bites: Season the strip steaks with Montreal steak seasoning. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add olive oil.
-
Cook the Steak: Once the skillet is hot, add the steak bites. Sear on all sides until cooked to your desired level of doneness (about 3-4 minutes for medium-rare).
-
Add Garlic and Butter: Reduce heat and add butter and minced garlic to the skillet with the steak bites. Toss the steak bites in the garlic butter for an additional minute to infuse flavor.
-
Finish the Potatoes: Place the smashed potatoes on a baking sheet, sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese, and bake in a preheated oven (400°F/200°C) for about 5-7 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
-
Assemble: Serve the garlic butter steak bites alongside the cheesy smashed potatoes. Garnish with chopped green onions for added freshness and flavor.
Notes
You can use any type of steak for this recipe, but strip steaks provide the best balance of tenderness and flavor.
For extra creaminess, you can mash the potatoes with a little bit of sour cream before adding the cheese.
Feel free to adjust the seasonings according to your taste preferences.
