Description

These Funfetti Cake Donuts are the perfect treat for any celebration! Soft, fluffy, and packed with colorful sprinkles, these donuts are a fun twist on the classic cake donut. Top them with a sweet glaze or enjoy them as they are for a colorful, delicious bite.

Ingredients

Scale

For the donuts:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2/3 cup buttermilk (or regular milk if you don’t have buttermilk)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup rainbow sprinkles (plus more for topping)

For the glaze (optional):

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Rainbow sprinkles (for decorating)

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a donut pan with cooking spray or lightly butter it.
  • Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, buttermilk, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • Combine: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring just until combined. Do not overmix. Gently fold in the rainbow sprinkles, being careful not to stir too much, so the colors don’t bleed.
  • Fill the Pan: Spoon or pipe the batter into the donut pan, filling each cavity about 3/4 of the way full.
  • Bake: Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the donuts cool in the pan for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Make the Glaze (Optional): In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add more milk to reach your desired consistency.
  • Glaze and Decorate: Once the donuts are completely cool, dip them into the glaze or drizzle it over the top. Sprinkle additional rainbow sprinkles on top while the glaze is still wet.
  • Enjoy!: Serve your Funfetti Cake Donuts for breakfast, a snack, or as a fun treat for any occasion!

Notes

  • These donuts are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
  • You can also add more sprinkles to the batter if you want even more color.
  • If you prefer, you can skip the glaze and simply enjoy the donuts as they are!
