Description

This Southern-style salmon croquette recipe is simple, flavorful, and crispy! Made with canned salmon, cornmeal, and fresh veggies, these golden-fried patties are the perfect comfort food. Serve them as a quick weeknight meal or a delightful appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup flour
  • ¼ cup yellow cornmeal
  • 15 ounces canned salmon
  • 1 red bell pepper, finely chopped
  • ½ cup sweet onion, diced
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon seasoned salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup cilantro, chopped
  • Olive oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, cornmeal, canned salmon, red bell pepper, sweet onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  2. Add mayonnaise and chopped cilantro, mixing everything together until well combined.
  3. Form the mixture into small patties, about 2-3 inches in diameter.
  4. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  5. Fry the patties for about 3-4 minutes per side or until golden and crispy.
  6. Remove from the skillet and drain on paper towels.
  7. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce or side dish.

Notes

  • If you prefer a spicier kick, feel free to add a pinch of cayenne pepper or hot sauce to the mixture.
  • To ensure the patties hold together, don’t overmix the ingredients.
  • For a lighter version, you can bake the patties instead of frying them. Just place them on a baking sheet and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • Prep Time: 15 minutes
  • Cook Time: 15-20 minutes (depending on the size of your patties)
