Description

This soft and fluffy sandwich bread is perfect for everyday use, whether you’re making sandwiches, toast, or enjoying it fresh out of the oven. Its simple ingredients and straightforward preparation make it a favorite among home bakers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups warm water (85-90°F / 29-32°C)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1½ tablespoons dry active yeast
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 6 cups unbleached all-purpose flour

Instructions

  • In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook attachment, combine the warm water, dry active yeast, and granulated sugar. Whisk to combine, and let rest for 3-5 minutes to allow the yeast to bloom.
  • Add the melted butter and the kosher salt to the bowl. Whisk to combine.
  • Slowly add the all-purpose flour to the bowl, 1 cup at a time. Allow the mixer to knead the dough for 3-4 minutes. The dough will still be slightly shaggy.
  • Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead by hand for an additional 3-4 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Punch down the dough to release air bubbles, then shape it into a loaf and place it into a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  • Cover the pan and let the dough rise for an additional 30 minutes, or until it has risen above the rim of the pan.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  • Remove from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

  • Ensure the water temperature is between 85-90°F (29-32°C) to activate the yeast effectively.
  • For a softer crust, brush the top of the loaf with melted butter immediately after baking.
  • This bread can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
