This delicious stir fry features thinly sliced beef sirloin or flank steak cooked in a savory sticky sauce with colorful vegetables like bell peppers, broccoli, and green onions, all served over rice noodles. The sweet and savory sauce is enhanced with a kick of heat from red pepper flakes, making it an irresistible meal!

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients:

  • 8 oz (225g) rice noodles (or lo mein/udon noodles)

  • 1 lb (450g) beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced

  • 2 tbsp cornstarch

  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil, divided

  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced

  • 2 cups (120g) broccoli florets

  • 3 green onions, sliced (plus extra for garnish)

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated

For the Sticky Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup (60ml) soy sauce

  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce

  • 2 tbsp honey or brown sugar

  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar (or lime juice)

  • 1 tbsp sesame oil

  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Noodles:

    • Cook the rice noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

  • Prepare the Sticky Sauce:

    • In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey or brown sugar, rice vinegar (or lime juice), sesame oil, and red pepper flakes. Set aside.

  • Cook the Beef:

    • In a large bowl, toss the thinly sliced beef with cornstarch until evenly coated.

    • Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the beef in batches, cooking until browned on both sides (about 2-3 minutes per side). Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.

  • Sauté the Vegetables:

    • In the same skillet, add the remaining vegetable oil. Add the red bell pepper, broccoli florets, and green onions. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes, until the vegetables are tender-crisp.

    • Add the minced garlic and grated ginger and cook for another 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.

  • Combine and Simmer:

    • Return the cooked beef to the skillet along with the sticky sauce. Toss everything together until the beef and vegetables are evenly coated in the sauce.

    • Add the cooked noodles to the skillet and toss to combine. Let it cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to allow the noodles to absorb some of the sauce.

  • Serve:

    • Serve the stir fry in bowls, garnished with extra sliced green onions if desired.

Notes

  • If you prefer a spicier version, you can increase the red pepper flakes or add a splash of sriracha to the sauce.

  • You can substitute the beef with chicken or tofu for a different protein.
