- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
Instructions

- Crack the egg into a small bowl and beat with a fork until the yolk and white are fully combined.
- Mix in the cheese and fresh herbs, if using. Add salt and pepper to taste.
- Spread the egg and cheese mixture over the bread, covering it all the way to the crusts. Sprinkle with cayenne if desired.
- Bake for about 10 to 12 minutes until the egg and cheese mixture is puffed, bubbly, and starting to brown.
Air Fryer Directions:
- Preheat the air fryer to 340°F.
- Prepare the egg mixture and spread it over the untoasted bread slices.
- Carefully place the slices in the heated air fryer basket.
- Air fry at 340°F for 8 to 10 minutes, or until browned, toasted, and cooked through.
Cheese Toast Variations:
- Faux Monsieur: Use Gruyere cheese. Spread toasted bread with Dijon mustard, add veggie slices, and bake as directed.
- Tomato Toast: Use mozzarella and parmesan cheeses with Italian seasoning. Bake and layer with tomato slices, oregano, salt, and pepper. Drizzle with balsamic glaze.
- Honey Apple Walnut: Bake cheesy toast as directed. Top with crisp apple slices, honey, and toasted cinnamon walnuts.
Notes
- The recipe is flexible, allowing you to swap cheeses and adjust seasonings.
- If you’re using an air fryer, ensure the bread is placed carefully to prevent spillage of the egg mixture.
